Poesy Unique Handmade Gifts & Functional Art

Royal Oak artist, Holly Laginess initially opened Poesy Gallery in Royal Oak on Rochester Road in November 2012. Since then Poesy has nestled into a new home on the east side of Woodward between 13 and 14 mile roads.

Poesy features handcrafted creative works from local and national artists including functional art, fine art and photography. Not only is it a great place to find gifts, but it also function as the owner’s working studio during off-hours.

Laginess always wanted to open her own gift shop and although she decided to execute this dream during a time of challenging economic climate, she created a no-risk opportunity for her featured artists. Holly has been providing groups of talented craftspeople the opportunity to bring their work to Poesy on a consignment basis for the past 3 years. Poesy’s collection is equivalent to some of the best art fairs that surface around town every Spring, Summer and Fall, but the difference is that Poesy is offers a unique collection all year long, and even wraps your purchase in a cute little gift bag and bow.

Poesy – meaning poetic inspiration – is interpreted by Laginess as an artful spirit: a feeling.

Challenge:

Local Gallery owner, Holly Laginess came to us to develop a basic website that would represent her brand.

As brick & mortar businesses continue to lose market share to online competitors Holly knew that she had to turn to technology.

Although Holly has been extremely successful marketing her business on social media. She knew that every business must have a website. In today’s digital marketplace a website is the equivalent of a business card in years past.

In addition, Holly wanted MHM to build the website on a user-friendly platform that she could manage on her own. she also requested that the website be on a platform that she could easily incorporate an eCommerce solution into, on her own, in the future.

So, the Poesy website was built on the Squarespace platform.

Solution:

MHM proposed to build a new website, making it all about the visuals and simple ecommerce integration. The first thing a user sees is a colorful photo of beautiful, colorful pottery, followed by Poesy’s playful logo and general business information.

At the end of the day, MHM provided Holly with a seamless experience that not only made website visitors more interested in visiting the gallery, but it also provides a platform for the Poesy Gallery to sell products online and compete with competitors.

  • Design a simple but stunning website to promote the gallery and highlight the variety of products
  • Create the website on user friendly platform so client feels comfortable to manage on her own
  • Develop website that client can easily incorporate ecommerce functionality in the future
  • Integrate artist consignment form and registration submission forms
  • Include scrolling gallery
  • Display company information for the public in prominent area
